Hellermann Tyton 70mm Copper Link – Suits 00 B&S/AWG

Hellermann Tyton 70mm Copper Link: Precision Crimp Connector for 00 B&S/AWG Cables

Engineered for High-Current DC and Automotive Power Systems

The Hellermann Tyton 70mm Copper Link is a high-performance compression crimp connector designed to join 00 B&S/AWG (70mm) cables with exceptional conductivity and mechanical strength. Manufactured from 99.9% pure copper and finished with a tin electroplating layer (510 microns), this link ensures low-resistance, corrosion-resistant connections in demanding environments. Whether you’re building a 12V, 24V, or 48V DC power system, this connector supports reliable energy transfer for automotive, marine, solar, and off-grid applications.

Unlike generic connectors, the Hellermann Tyton CS70-CU-SR is annealed for ductility, reducing the risk of cracking under vibration or thermal cycling. Its bellmouth entry guides stranded conductors smoothly into the barrel, minimising strand damage during insertion and crimping. This attention to detail makes it a preferred choice for professional installers who demand consistent, long-term performance.

Why Choose a High-Purity Copper Link?

In high-current DC circuits, every milliohm of resistance matters. Inferior connectors made from brass or low-grade copper alloys can introduce hotspots, voltage drop, and premature failure. The Hellermann Tyton 70mm link addresses these risks with:

• 99.9% IACS conductivity virtually identical to pure copper, ensuring minimal power loss
• Low oxygen content (30 ppm) prevents internal oxidation that degrades conductivity over time
• 40% ductility rating allows the crimp to deform uniformly around the conductor without fracturing
• Tin plating protects against corrosion in humid, salty, or acidic environments, common in marine and coastal installations

These properties make the link ideal for 00 AWG battery cables, inverter connections, winch wiring, and solar array combiner boxes where reliability is non-negotiable.

Designed for Professional Crimping

The CS70-CU-SR features a seamless copper barrel with an inside diameter of 11.3 mm and outside diameter of 14.6 mm, optimised for standard 70mm fine-stranded cable (19 x 2.14 mm strands). The 50.8 mm length provides ample surface area for a secure, low-resistance crimp when using a suitable hexagonal or indent crimping tool. A 3.3 mm wall thickness balances strength with formability, ensuring the link withstands mechanical stress without adding unnecessary bulk.

For installers, the bellmouth profile is a critical feature. It eliminates sharp edges that can cut individual strands, a common failure point in high-vibration environments like engine bays or trailer chassis. Combined with the annealed copper, this design promotes a gas-tight crimp that resists moisture ingress and maintains conductivity over decades of service.

Applications Across Automotive, Marine, and Renewable Energy

This copper link is a versatile solution for any system requiring a permanent, low-resistance joint between two 00 AWG conductors. Typical use cases include:

• Dual battery systems in 4WDs, caravans, and camper trailers
• Marine electrical panels where salt spray demands tinned copper
• Solar PV installations join cables in combiner boxes or array wiring
• Inverter and charger connections in off-grid power setups
• Industrial equipment and heavy machinery with high-vibration environments

Note: The link is rated for a maximum continuous operating temperature of 155C, but typical de-rating factors apply based on installation conditions, ambient temperature, and cable insulation ratings. Always refer to local wiring standards when sizing conductors and connectors.

Built to Australian Standards

Hellermann Tyton manufactures this link to AS/NZS4325 Part 1, ensuring it meets stringent requirements for dimensions, material purity, and plating thickness. This compliance gives installers confidence that the connector will perform as expected in critical circuits, from emergency vehicle systems to remote renewable energy sites.
