Victron Temperature Sensor for Precision Battery Management

Optimise Charging and Protect Your Power System with Accurate Temperature Monitoring

The Victron Temperature Sensor (ASS000001000) is a purpose-built accessory that enables temperature-compensated charging and real-time thermal monitoring across Victron Energy systems. By feeding precise battery temperature data to your inverter/charger or GX device, it helps maintain optimal charging voltages, extends battery service life, and reduces the risk of thermal runaway in lithium banks. This sensor is an essential component for anyone seeking reliable, automated energy management in mobile, marine, or off-grid installations.

Unlike generic sensors that may lack proper calibration or ruggedness, this Victron sensor is engineered for seamless integration with MultiPlus, Quattro, and the Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, and Venus GX platforms. It also supports VE.Can MPPT solar charge controllers, Lynx Shunt VE.Can, and Skylla-series chargers, making it a versatile addition to complex energy setups. The sensors ring terminal design allows direct mounting to a battery terminal, ensuring rapid thermal response and stable readings.

Key Features

• Temperature-compensated charging adjusts voltage based on real-time battery temperature, improving charge efficiency and longevity
• Wide compatibility with MultiPlus, Quattro, Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, Venus GX, VE.Can MPPTs, Lynx Shunt VE.Can, and Skylla chargers
• Rugged, compact design with an integrated ring terminal for secure battery post attachment and reliable thermal contact
• Extended temperature range from -20 C to +70 C, suitable for engine rooms, outdoor enclosures, and harsh climates
• Simple installation via ferrule-terminated conductors that plug directly into GX device or inverter/charger inputs
• Customisable cable length allows you to shorten or extend the lead to suit your installation layout

Why Temperature Sensing Matters

Battery chemistry is highly sensitive to temperature. Lead-acid batteries require voltage compensation of approximately -16 mV/C per 12V cell to avoid overcharging in heat or undercharging in cold. Lithium batteries demand precise thermal limits to prevent charging below 0 C, which can cause irreversible damage. The Victron Temperature Sensor provides the data your Victron system needs to automatically apply these corrections, safeguarding your investment and maximising usable capacity.

In systems without temperature sensing, chargers operate on fixed voltage setpoints. This can lead to chronic undercharging in winter, reducing available amp-hours, or accelerated grid corrosion and water loss in summer. By integrating this sensor, you eliminate that guesswork and let your Victron equipment dynamically adapt to environmental conditions.

Seamless Integration with Victron GX Devices

When connected to a Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, or Venus GX, the temperature sensor appears as a data source in the VRM portal and on the GX Touch display. You can set up alarms, trigger relays, or adjust charging parameters based on temperature thresholds. This level of control is invaluable for unattended sites, marine vessels, and remote off-grid cabins where battery health directly impacts reliability.

Installation and Compatibility Notes

The sensor is not calibrated at the factory and carries an expected deviation of 2 C, which is sufficient for charge compensation and safety monitoring in most applications. It is not designed for prolonged exposure above 70 C, so avoid mounting it directly on engine blocks or exhaust components. The cable can be shortened or extended using standard wiring practices; ensure connections are secure and protected from moisture.

This sensor is not compatible with the BMV-7X2 series battery monitors, which use a different sensing input. For those devices, please refer to the dedicated BMV temperature sensor accessory.

Applications

• Marine and RV house banks where ambient temperatures fluctuate widely
• Off-grid solar systems using Victron MultiPlus or Quattro inverter/chargers
• Telecom and industrial backup power requiring automated thermal management
• Lithium battery installations needing low-temperature charge protection
• VE.Can MPPT solar charge controllers for temperature-adjusted absorption and float voltages

Protect Your Power System with Precision

Add the Victron Temperature Sensor to your energy setup and enable your Victron equipment to make smarter, safer charging decisions. Whether you are commissioning a new off-grid system or retrofitting an existing installation, this sensor delivers the thermal insight needed to extend battery life and improve overall system reliability.
