Ai-Thinker BW21-CBV | Dual-Band WiFi BLE Camera Module

Ai-Thinker BW21-CBV Dual-Band Wi-Fi BLE Camera Module – Compact Wireless Vision Module for Embedded Products

The Ai-Thinker BW21-CBV is a compact dual-band Wi-Fi, BLE, and camera module for embedded wireless vision products, camera nodes, edge sensing, and connected devices. It is better suited to custom PCB integration than the development kit version, making it useful once pinout, firmware, and power design have been validated.

For evaluation before custom integration, compare it with the Ai-Thinker BW21-CBV-Kit. It can be combined with OpenELAB sensor modules for smart cameras, occupancy sensing, robot vision, and wireless telemetry prototypes.

Module-level design requires careful antenna placement, power decoupling, boot strapping, firmware flashing access, and camera signal routing. Follow Ai-Thinker hardware guidelines before laying out a production PCB.

Technical Specifications

Board Layout & Label Guide

• Module Pads – Soldered interface to host PCB.
• Camera Interface – Connects to compatible camera hardware.
• RF/Antenna Area – Keep clear of metal and copper as required.
• Power Pins – Provide stable module power.
• UART / Download Pins – Used for flashing and diagnostics.
• Boot Strap Pins – Define boot mode.
• GPIO Pins – General control and peripheral functions.
• Grounding Note – Follow reference layout for RF and signal integrity.

Application Scenarios

1. Bring-Up Checklist Script

Use a serial terminal first to verify module boot output.

python -m serial.tools.miniterm COM7 115200

2. GPIO Heartbeat Skeleton

Blink a status GPIO after firmware starts.

const int ledPin = 2;void setup() { pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT);}void loop() { digitalWrite(ledPin, !digitalRead(ledPin)); delay(500);}

3. Camera Node Flow

High-level firmware flow for a wireless camera node.

void setup() { // Initialize serial, Wi-Fi, camera, and storage.}void loop() { // Capture frame, process locally, then send metadata.}
