Ai-Thinker PB-01-Kit TG7100B BLE Mesh Dev Board

Ai-Thinker PB-01-Kit is a compact development board for the PB-01 BLE 5.0 module, built around the TG7100B low-power Bluetooth platform. It is intended for evaluating BLE Mesh networking, smart-lighting control, PWM output, GPIO expansion, firmware burning, and wireless product debugging before moving to a custom PCB.

The board converts the PB-01 module into a practical DIP-20 development platform with Micro USB power, 2.54mm pin headers, RGB lamp beads, cold / warm lamp beads, a reset button, and a user-defined key. This makes it easier to validate wireless control behavior, dimming response, low-power operation, and hardware interface usage during early development.

Integration Notes & Hardware Guidance

  • Power input: Use a stable 5V Micro USB source and keep adequate peak-current margin. The official hardware guidance recommends more than 800mA peak current for development-board testing.
  • RF setup: PB-01-Kit uses an IPEX antenna interface. Keep the antenna area away from metal parts, batteries, displays, and high-frequency or high-current circuitry during RF evaluation.
  • Firmware scope: The official kit specification focuses on Bluetooth 5.0 Mesh. Treat Zigbee-related usage as firmware-stack-dependent instead of assuming it is available in every default firmware package.
  • Lighting validation: The on-board RGB and cold / warm lamp beads help verify PWM dimming, color temperature control, and wireless command response without building an external lamp-load board first.
  • Peripheral expansion: The 2.54mm pin header exposes development interfaces for connecting external switches, sensors, LEDs, or test fixtures during prototype validation.

FAQ

Q: Is PB-01-Kit the same as the PB-01 module?
A: No. PB-01-Kit is a development board built for evaluating the PB-01 module, adding Micro USB power, headers, buttons, and lamp loads for debugging.

Q: Does PB-01-Kit support Bluetooth Mesh?
A: Yes. Official Ai-Thinker documentation lists Bluetooth 5.0 with Mesh support for the PB-01 / PB-02-Kit development board.

Q: Does PB-01-Kit support Zigbee?
A: The official kit specification lists Bluetooth 5.0 Mesh. For Zigbee-related work, verify the exact firmware stack, SDK support, and certification requirements before committing to a design.

Q: What power supply should I use?
A: Use a stable 5V Micro USB supply. For reliable development-board testing, reserve more than 800mA peak-current capability.

Q: What antenna type does PB-01-Kit use?
A: PB-01-Kit uses an IPEX external antenna connection, which is useful for antenna-placement testing and enclosure evaluation.

Q: Which interfaces are available?
A: The board exposes PWM, SPI, GPIO, ADC, and UART-related development pins through a 2.54mm pin header.

Q: Is this board intended for mass production?
A: It is primarily a development and evaluation board. Use it to validate firmware, power, RF behavior, and peripheral wiring before designing a custom PB-01-based PCB.
