M5Stack ATOM DTU NB-IoT2 SIM7028 Global Kit

Description

The M5Stack ATOM DTU NB-IoT2 Kit is a programmable wireless data transmission unit for global Cat-NB networks. Built around the SIM7028 NB-IoT module, this global Cat-NB DTU combines NB-IoT cellular connectivity, an AtomS3-Lite controller, Micro SIM support, an SMA external antenna, and industrial-style terminal wiring in one compact kit. Unlike a simple transparent modem, the kit can be programmed to match application logic, connect sensors or actuators, and send low-throughput data through a cellular NB-IoT network.

The SIM7028 NB-IoT module supports a broad Cat-NB band list for global deployment, while the included 2.5dBi SMA antenna helps improve signal stability. The global Cat-NB DTU communicates through UART at 115200bps and is controlled with AT commands, making it practical for remote monitoring, asset tracking, industrial data collection, telemedicine terminals, and shared mobility devices. The ATOM DTU NB-IoT2 Kit also provides RS485, I2C, and custom expansion options, plus a built-in rail clamping structure for industrial control environments.

Features

• Programmable NB-IoT DTU: the M5Stack ATOM DTU NB-IoT2 Kit includes AtomS3-Lite, so users can adapt firmware to real business logic.
• SIM7028 cellular module: the SIM7028 NB-IoT module supports multiple Cat-NB frequency bands for global use.
• Global band coverage: designed as a global Cat-NB DTU for B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B8/B12/B13/B14/B17/B18/B19/B20/B25/B26/B28/B66/B70/B85.
• AT command control: serial control through UART 115200bps keeps integration simple for embedded projects.
• Micro SIM and SMA antenna: supports a Micro SIM card and includes a 2.5dBi rubber antenna with SMA inner pin.
• Industrial expansion: RS485, I2C, and custom interfaces help connect sensors, actuators, and control devices.
• Multiple power options: powered by USB 5V or through the RS485 port with HT3.96 interface at 9-24V.
• Rail-friendly housing: the built-in rail clamping structure helps the kit fit industrial control cabinets.

Network and Protocol Support

The SIM7028 NB-IoT module supports TCP, UDP, HTTP, TLS, DTLS, DNS, NTP, PING, LWM2M, COAP, MQTT, MQTTS, and SSL. That protocol coverage makes the global Cat-NB DTU suitable for cloud reporting, device telemetry, periodic status updates, and remote command workflows.

Programmable Architecture

The ATOM DTU NB-IoT2 Kit is more flexible than a pass-through-only DTU because AtomS3-Lite can handle local logic before data is transmitted. This helps the global Cat-NB DTU reduce unnecessary traffic and adapt to low-power, low-throughput NB-IoT scenarios.

Specifications

Applications

• Asset tracking: use the ATOM DTU NB-IoT2 Kit to report location or status data over NB-IoT networks.
• Remote monitoring: the SIM7028 NB-IoT module is suitable for sending low-volume sensor data from distributed sites.
• Industrial control cabinets: the global Cat-NB DTU supports rail-friendly installation and 9-24V RS485-side power input.
• Shared bikes and mobility: build low-throughput device reporting and command channels for shared equipment.
• Remote control: combine AT commands, local AtomS3-Lite logic, and NB-IoT connectivity for remote terminal control.
• Telemedicine terminals: send periodic device or sensor updates where NB-IoT coverage is preferred.

Integration Notes

The M5Stack ATOM DTU NB-IoT2 Kit is designed for projects that need a programmable edge device rather than only a modem. Developers can use the AtomS3-Lite side to collect data through RS485 or I2C, then pass selected payloads to the SIM7028 NB-IoT module for cellular transmission.

Deployment Notes

As a global Cat-NB DTU, the kit should be matched with a compatible NB-IoT SIM card and local carrier support for the required frequency band. The external SMA antenna should be positioned where enclosure, cabinet, or vehicle body shielding does not block signal quality.
