REC BMS Wi-Fi Module

REC BMS Wi-Fi Module: Remote Monitoring and Control for Your Battery Management System

Seamless Wireless Integration for REC BMS Units

The REC BMS Wi-Fi Module provides a robust wireless interface for your REC battery management system, enabling real-time monitoring and configuration of battery parameters from any connected device. Designed for professional installers and system integrators, this module connects directly to REC BMS units via RS-485 and establishes a reliable Wi-Fi network, either by joining an existing infrastructure or creating its own access point. This eliminates the need for physical cabling to a PC or dedicated display, streamlining system setup and ongoing management in off-grid, marine, and mobile applications.

With the REC Wi-Fi Module, critical battery data such as cell voltages, current, temperature, state of charge (SOC), and state of health (SOH) are accessible through an intuitive web interface. This empowers users to make informed decisions about energy usage and system health, reducing the risk of unexpected downtime or battery damage. The module fully substitutes the PC Software BMS Master Control and BLE module, offering a more flexible and scalable solution for remote battery management.

Advanced Monitoring and Data Logging

Beyond basic monitoring, the REC Wi-Fi Module offers comprehensive data logging capabilities. All battery parameters are recorded at user-defined intervals and stored on the built-in 16 GB Class 10 SD card, organised into 24-hour folders for easy retrieval. This historical data can be transferred to any connected device for in-depth analysis, helping to identify trends, diagnose issues, and optimise system performance over time. The alarm pop-up feature provides immediate notification of system errors or alarms, complete with diagnostic information, allowing for rapid response to potential problems.

The module’s web interface is divided into dedicated tabs for streamlined operation. The General tab displays key parameters at a glance, while advanced tabs provide deeper insights into battery pack behaviour. The Charging tab allows users to remotely set charging voltage and current, enabling precise control over the charging process without physical access to the BMS. This is particularly valuable for systems installed in remote or hard-to-reach locations, such as off-grid solar installations, marine vessels, or recreational vehicles.

• Simultaneous use with optional LCD touch display for local monitoring

Reliable Performance in Demanding Environments

Engineered for professional applications, the REC Wi-Fi Module operates reliably across a wide supply voltage range of 10V to 68V, making it suitable for 12V, 24V, and 48V battery systems commonly found in solar energy storage, marine, and automotive setups. Its low power consumption ensures minimal impact on battery state of charge, even in standby mode. The module features an opto-isolated relay output rated for up to 100V DC and 3A, providing a safe and flexible interface for external control or alarm circuits.

The enclosure, manufactured by Takachi (TWF7-11-4D), is made from ABS plastic and offers IP32 protection, guarding against ingress of solid objects greater than 2.5 mm and dripping water when tilted up to 15 degrees. While not suitable for direct outdoor exposure, it is well-suited for installation in protected compartments such as electrical cabinets, battery boxes, or interior vehicle spaces. The included 0.5 m adapter harnesses simplify connection to the BMS and optional LCD display, reducing installation time and complexity.

Seamless Integration with REC BMS Ecosystem

The REC Wi-Fi Module is designed to work seamlessly with the REC BMS family, including the 2Q BMS and Active Balancing BMS units. It connects via the RS-485 communication bus, ensuring reliable data transfer even in electrically noisy environments. For systems that require local visual feedback, the module can be used concurrently with the REC LCD touch display, providing both remote and on-site monitoring capabilities. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for complex installations where multiple stakeholders need access to battery information.

By replacing the need for a dedicated PC or Bluetooth connection, the Wi-Fi Module reduces hardware costs and simplifies system architecture. It is particularly beneficial for fleet management, remote off-grid sites, and marine applications where physical access is limited. The default configuration operates in Access Point mode with SSID “REC_BMS” and IP address 192.168.1.184, allowing for quick setup and immediate access. Advanced users can reconfigure the module to join an existing Wi-Fi network for integration into broader IoT or monitoring systems.
